Champagne Spray Tips & Tricks

A bride and groom spray a bottle of champagne in front of a lake for their couples portraits.

One shot that always adds a pop (pun intended) of excitement to your wedding gallery is the iconic champagne spray photograph. It’s a fun way to celebrate and create some stunning visuals for you to look back on in years to come. So, let’s dive into how you can achieve that perfect champagne spray on your big day!

How to get the perfect spray

It make look simple but there is a knack to getting the perfect spray from the champagne; as soon as you pop the cork, put your thumb over the top of the bottle and leave a small gap, then shake the bottle up and down like your life depends on it and you should get a good 10 seconds of spray!

Choose the Right Moment

Golden hour is always a firm favourite for capturing a champagne spray; it will always look epic no matter what, but a sunset can make it extra special. Typically occurring just before sunset, golden hour bathes everything in a warm, soft glow and it can often catch the sparkles from the champagne making it a little more magical – you know me, I’m all about that light!

Why not make it a group photo?

It’s not just for a couples portrait, why not get your wedding party involved! This can be a great way to do something a little different for your group photos and it’s super fun! I’d suggest at least two people in the group spray the champagne at the same time, this should make for a pretty epic still or video.

"Just bloody enjoy it! The most important tip? Just have fun! Don’t stress about getting the perfect shot."

Enjoy the moment, and let me do my thing – I’ve done many champagne spray photos over the years so you can leave it to me.
